S.A.I.L. Classes
|
The S.A.I.L. classes focus on the process of helping individuals to grow in Christ. This is accomplished through a balanced approach of the five purposes to which all Christians are called: worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministry and mission. Classes take place on Sundays at 11:15 am. Session weeks will vary throughout the year and are updated below each class description. Everyone is encouraged to participate in all four core classes.
The S.A.I.L. acronym represents:
- Seek a Relationship with God
- Adopt Membership
- Invest in Discovering your P.L.A.C.E.
- Launch into Life
Orientation is held once a quarter:

S.A.I.L. 101 - Seek a Relationship with God
Our greatest wish and prayer is that you will become mature Christians. 2 Corinthians 13:9
SAIL 101 explores four spiritual habits that will bring you closer to God: spending time in God's word, prayer, fellowship with other believers, and cheerful giving. Our goal as Christians is that we become more like Christ as we develop these four habits. This course is comprised of four sessions and is offered Fall and Spring.

Now you are no longer strangers to God and foreigners to heaven, but you are members of God's very own family...and you belong in God's household with every other Christian. Ephesians 2:19
SAIL 201 covers the basics of Christian beliefs, the United Methodist Church and Thorndale United Methodist Church's history. In this class you will learn what it means to be a member and choose whether you would like to join. This course will emphasize the 3 C's:
- Commitment to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of membership
- Commitment to the church through the sharing in of the responsibilities of serving and supporting the church.
- Commitment to the World through sharing your faith with those around you (friends, family members, colleagues and neighbors) who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
This course is five weeks in duration and is offered in the Fall and Spring.
